Human Resources Generalist Melany Wendeln Receives Employee-Owner of the Quarter Award

Please join us in congratulating Melany Wendeln on receiving the Employee-Owner of the Quarter (EOQ) award! The EOQ award recognizes and shows appreciation to an employee-owner who demonstrated exceptional performance over the previous quarter. For all her work playing key roles in managing the deployment of a new applicant tracking system, implementation of a new benefits program, as well as working through Human Resources (HR) leadership changes, we are proud to present Melany with the Q2 2023 award.

Melany’s career at ONEIL started in a part-time role, as an Accounts Payable Specialist in November 2020. During this time, Melany was continuing her education ultimately earning her bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management. In 2021, Melany was promoted to the full-time position of HR Generalist.

During this period, ONEIL was going through transitions and upgrades to company HR processes, procedures, and software systems. Combine the aforementioned with HR leadership changes and Melany found herself challenged daily with the known and unknown. She faced these challenges head-on and persevered. She stretched herself and grew as a communicator and collaborator helping to not only identify problems but to solve them. Melany’s focus has been to improve the Human Resource experience at ONEIL.

Melany has proven to have the ability to continuously learn about HR best practices, adapt them to our organization, and assist our employees with their needs.

We asked Melany to share her thoughts about her ONEIL career.

Briefly share your career trajectory and what originally brought you to ONEIL.

I started my career in accounting, although I was never unhappy with it, I knew I was destined for something different. At the time, I was working for a manufacturing company and the HR department approached me to assist with a few audits they were performing. Once the audits had wrapped up, I continued to be a split resource to both departments for a couple years and that’s when I made the decision to finish my bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management. I was in my final year of my bachelor’s degree when I accepted my position at ONEIL and the rest is history!

What do you enjoy most about your work at ONEIL?

THE EMPLOYEES! Every single day is different! Some days we are solving problems and some days we are finding them. I see myself growing not only as an employee but as a person each day at ONEIL. The employees are genuinely passionate about the company, which makes it very easy to come in every day and give it my all.

What motivates you to go above and beyond in your role?
Again, the employees. Being an ESOP company, we are truly in this together! We have some of the brightest, most capable employees I have ever experienced. They are more than deserving of a well organized and knowledgeable HR team that helps solve problems, simplify workflows, and hear them out when things are going well and when things aren’t going great.

It is Melany’s work ethic, attitude, and ability to meet challenges and persevere that make her EOQ. We are proud to have her on our team, and we look forward to even more of her outstanding contributions in the future.
