Training and Development Specialist (E-learning)

Locations: Miamisburg, OH


You will provide training sessions via lectures, group discussions, team exercises, hands-on examples, and other training formats to our customers. This role requires working closely with technical writers and the customer to interpret complex, technical information and translate it into an easily understandable training format, per customer guidelines.


  • Writes technical documents/manuals according to specifications for customer
  • Researches existing data to maximize use of previously developed text and/or illustrations
  • Drafts text materials to ensure text and illustrations are completed and coordinated per final product requirements
  • Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, and/or pneumatic systems on heavy-duty equipment
  • Develops training curricula and/or recommends or utilizes programs that meet instructional goals and objectives
  • Formulates training outlines and determines instructional methods, utilizing knowledge of specified training needs and effectiveness of such methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, and online or web-based courses.
  • Selects or develops training aids, including training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works
  • Design and create training manuals, online learning modules, and course materials
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques to deliver group and individual instruction and training covering a range of technical, operational, and/or maintenance areas
  • Works with project team to design and develop SCORM compliant e-learning
  • Develops storyboards and scripts for e-learning
  • Upload and configure e-learning content into learning management systems
  • Monitors and evaluates training programs and utilizes the data to revise or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Working Environment:

  • General office environment; required to use office equipment (personal computer, telephone/smartphone, photocopier); required to sit/stand for long periods of time
  • May be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
  • May be required (on short notice) to work overtime/additional hours to meet deadlines; may occasionally require weekend and/or working holidays, as needed
  • May be required to travel by motor vehicle and/or airplane to complete job requirements; estimated to be less than 25%



  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods, tools, and techniques
  • Knowledge of instructional design theory and learning principles
  • Knowledge of learning management systems customer) is required
  • Previous military and/or mechanical aptitude/experience is preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting/diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and/or pneumatic systems is preferred
  • Previous experience for the Department of Defense (DoD) is preferred

Technical Experience:

  • Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and desktop publishing tools
  • 4 years of demonstrated experience as an e-learning developer
  • Experience with web-based training authoring software such as, Adobe Captivate 7 or higher and Articulate 360
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft PowerPoint is required
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with desktop publishing tools is required
  • Intermediate to advanced technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, and/or aeronautical systems is required


  • CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) is preferred
  • Certification or licensure in a technical field (automotive or aerospace) is preferred
  • Government/Military Common Access Card (CAC) to work on assigned contracts and/or projects may be required
  • Valid driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record is required

  • Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodology.
  • Ability to remove and install mechanical and electrical parts on small to large vehicle systems
  • Ability to stay organized and process work packages appropriately
  • Ability to understand mechanical concepts and military/DoD processes
  • Ability to diagnose electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and to prepare sketches to define illustration requirements; prepare illustration mark-ups
  • Ability to become familiar with customer’s product line
  • Ability to prepare various media types (photos, models, drawings, etc.) to prepare illustration requirements
  • Ability to write and edit clear and concise text using publications software
  • Ability to use XML, SGML, and/or HTML
