Position Objectives:

This is a hybrid of traditional positions that requires skills in software and web design, front-end coding and knowledge of a coding language such as .NET, Coldfusion or Perl. Works under the supervision of the Design & Development Team Lead to design, and develop the presentation layers (GUI components) for client, web and mobile applications for a variety of DoD and Commercial clients. Performs and interprets functional specifications and module definitions to yield design and layout of major components. Creates wireframe and full-color mockups as well as user stories and storyboards. Works closely with Design & Development Team Lead, Systems Analyst and Applications Engineer to interpret functional requirements, conducts task analysis and usability tests. Applies human factors principles using established Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) guidelines to ensure usability and standardization throughout product development. Participates in implementation of new features and components, and contributes to the products quality infrastructure as required for product releases.

Description:

Prefer at least one year of schooling toward Bachelors/Associates degree in Computer Science, Visual Arts, Graphic Design or a related field. Design portfolio is desired.

Education and Experience:
  • HTML, JavaScript and CSS experience.
  • Ability to design and develop presentation layers (GUI components) and visualization tools for application systems and sub-systems.
  • Ability to perform and interpret functional specifications and module definitions to yield design and layout of major components.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks. Primarily jQuery and its popular plugins.
  • Create prototypes/wireframes/mockups of interfaces to be used as a blueprint for content and technical development.
  • Knowledge/Experience with accessibility and usability issues.
  • Proficient with design/development tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Visual Studio
  • Creating or editing images and graphics for website use.
  • Knowledge of programming platforms such as .NET, Coldfusion, Java or PERL.
  • Some Experience with mobile development.
  • Must effectively work closely with systems analyst and lead applications engineer to interpret functional requirements and conduct task analysis/usability tests.
  • Ability to apply human-factors principles using established Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) guidelines and to ensure usability and standardization throughout product development.
  • Participation in the implementation of new features and components, and contributes to the product's quality infrastructure as required for product releases.
  • Assists in documentation of development activities to accommodate future maintenance.
  • Produces documentation or services in accord with a pre-established schedule or plan.
