What is the difference between EMS-2 and EMS-NG?
The primary difference between EMS-2 and EMS-NG at this time is that EMS-NG is a webbased application that is launched from a web browser.
What operating systems is EMS-NG compatible with?
EMS-NG is compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional Operating System.
What browsers does EMS-NG support?
Currently EMS-NG supports Internet Explorer 6.0 and greater.
NOTE: There are plans to expand the support to other browsers and versions in the near
future.
Does EMS-NG require any additional software to run?
EMS-NG can be used standalone, however, if you intend on performing any type of diagnostic test(s) directly on a vehicle, then the ADM software must also be installed. The ADM software is also available on the EMS website.
What are the minimum system requirements?
600 Mhz processor
256 MB RAM
1024 X 768 resolution
20 GB HD
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
Windows 2000 SP2 or greater
Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater
Does EMS-NG require a configuration file?
Yes, but it relates to the structure of the content and not the configuration of the vehicle. It will be created within the Authoring System and installed with the viewer software. No manual configuring will be required on-site.
Will the EMS-NG viewer support more than one IETM installed at a time?
At least one EMS-NG compliant IETM must be installed for the EMS-NG viewer to function, however, there is no limit as to how many IETMs can be installed at one time.
How do I install EMS-NG?
There are EMS-NG Installation Instructions located on the EMS website.
How will I be notified about the latest release of EMS-NG?
This website will post the most current release information along with the latest downloadable files.
What updates have been made to EMS-NG since the last software release?
There is a readme file located on the website that provides a history of updates made to the EMS-NG viewer application. This is also available to the user, once the application is installed, that can be accessed as follows: Start > Programs > EMS-NG > readme.
Will EMS-NG be providing authoring software and if so, when will it become available?
EMS-NG will have authoring software that will be accessible online via the EMS website. Authors will be able to create, edit, publish, and post content for review. Once the content is approved, it can be posted for all applicable users to download. It is forecasted to be completed by the 2nd Qtr of 2007.
What are some of the features we can expect in future releases of EMS-NG?
EMS-NG future enhancements to the website include the following:
- Content Management System (CMS) that allows the user to manage content, graphics,and parts information.
- Authoring and Publishing System will be available online via the EMS website. This will include XML, RPSTL, and graphic Hot Spot Editors.
- Ability to upload provisioning data or an existing EMS-2 RPSTL to create, edit, and publish an EMS-NG compliant RPSTL.
- Ability to upload, edit, and publish a provisioning file and/or Proof RPSTL to an EMSNG compliant format.
- Ability to download software and content files and publish CDs locally. A program will be provided to automatically divide the files up into multiple disks, if necessary.
- Ability to publish hardcopy manuals according to Mil-Spec and post PDF copies of each technical manual to the EMS website for review and/or end-user distribution.
- Logging/Feedback Reporting System will be available. An administrator will be able to analysis the various end-user logs and feedback that has been uploaded to the website.
Future EMS-NG viewer enhancements will include the following:
- Support of Netscape 7.2 and greater, and Internet Explorer 5.0.
- Framed-based screen layout with a menu bar and toolbar.
- Active message indicators to inform user of any session logs to export, suspended transactions to finalize, or important messages to read.
- Enhanced login system. Login setup and certain global viewer settings will only be accessible via an administrative login.
- RPSTL buttons to display Bulk Items, Kits, and Special Tools.
- Enhanced parts ordering that identifies the ability to order parts based on SMR Code.
- Enhanced Suspend/Resume capabilities across more work packages.
- Support of external application interoperability, such as the ability to link to/from a Computer-based Training application.
- Ability to save Sticky Notes for personal notation and viewing, versus global for all users to see.
- Ability to search Help content.
- Advanced diagnostics that reorder the sequence of test procedures to perform based on additional evidence such as historical data and environmental conditions.
