"Working at O’Neil is rewarding because while I am expected to produce a quality product, I have the assurance of receiving the resources I need to meet or exceed those expectations. This brings security and satisfaction to the kind of work I thoroughly enjoy." – B. D., Senior Technical Writer

Technical Writing: Department of Defense

We typically handle projects of varying sizes for military equipment manufacturers. We have developed publications for a variety of military vehicles, military diesel engines, and other military equipment ranging from mobile battlefield blood storage refrigerators to non-lethal munitions launching systems. The projects primarily include operations and maintenance manuals with some intrusive diagnostics and troubleshooting. Some of our documentation also covers the installation of specific equipment or kits onto an existing vehicle system.

Mechanical skills are preferred although a mechanical aptitude is just as effective. Our writers are not typically asked to perform the hands-on tear down of the equipment. Good software and organizational skills are important.

We typically use Microsoft Word or Adobe FrameMaker although it is not always required for the writer to be proficient in this software. With the advent of EMS NextGen, the writers are occasionally using Epic to author changes into documents until the web browser based authoring system is implemented. The writers at a minimum, need knowledge of Word and Excel. One helpful thing would be the ability to work within and familiarity with a network.

We are not only looking for former military mechanics but anyone with some mechanical skills, experience, or aptitude who have the ability to transfer this mechanical knowledge into usable technical documentation.
